iMovie '11: Add Music and Sound
There are several techniques available for adding audio to your project:

|
Importing Audio from the internet
To import legally available audio from video websites like YouTube:
- Find the legally available video and copy the web address
- Go to www.convertfiles.com and paste the address into the "or download it from" box
- Change the "Output format" to your desired output (.mov or .mp4 for video, .mp3 for audio only)
- Change "YouTube video resolution" to "high"
- Click "Convert" and wait.
- A box will appear with a long web address across the top. Right-click on this address and select "Download Linked File As.."
- Choose where you want the file to be downloaded to and select "Save"
- In iMovie select File > Import > Movies, find your downloaded video and select "Import", or alternatively drag a file directly from a window to the Timeline.
Audio Editing Techniques
- In the bottom-right of the Project section is the usual thumbnail slider. To its left is a new button. Click on it to reveal your clips' audio waveforms. Drag the horizontal line three-quarters of the way up each clip's audio waveform up to raise or down to lower the volume (red means it's too loud)
- Drag the little white circles on either side of the audio clip, near the top, to fade your audio in/out.
- You can edit specific sections of a clip by clicking and dragging over it, and then performing adjustments. You can then drag the dot along the horizontal bar left or right to specify how fast or slow the audio levels change from one setting to the other.
- Select a track then go to Window > Clip Adjustments. Click the Audio Effects button to flip the Inspector window and reveal 19 different effects. Hover over one to preview your clip's sound with the effect in place. If you're happy, click on it to set it. As with the Video Effects, you can only apply one effect per track.
