create movie titles
- Open iMovie '09. This can normally be done by clicking on the brown Applications folder on the right side of the Dock Bar, then opening the blue iWork '09 folder and then selecting Keynote.
- The Theme Chooser window will then appear. Before choosing a Theme make sure that the Slide Size (bottom right corner) is set to 1280 x 720 (or for Full HD 1920 x 1080). Then double click on either the plain black or plain white theme.
- Your theme will open a slide with two text boxes by default. You can delete these boxes before going any further by selecting them and pressing backspace.
- Add pictures by dragging them from your folder/desktop/internet browser directly onto the slide or add text by using the Text Box tool. You can then move and scale the various elements as you see fit. You can also use the Inspector Window or the Alpha and Mask tools to edit how they appear. To add videos use the Media Browser in Keynote (top right) to import your selection.
- Once you have collected the various elements of your title, select one of them to add a transition to (1) and open the Inspector Window (2). Then switch to the Build Inspector (3) and choose a Build In effect (4)
- Use the Build Out tab to choose how the object will disappear from the screen.
- Use the More Options tab and change the Start Build option for all objects to 'Automatically after transition'. This means that objects will appear automatically rather than waiting for you to click.
- You can determine how long each item appears on screen before the next event by changing the Delay value under Start Build.
- You can change the order that each objects appears by dragging them up/down in the Build Order list.
- Click Play in the top left corner of the screen to preview your movie title.
- When you're happy with your design select File>Export from the top of the Keynote screen.
- The Export Options window will appear. Set Playback Uses to Manual Advance, Format to Full Quality, Large and be sure to Include transparency.
- The next screen will prompt you to choose a name for the file and decide where to save it. Keynote will then export the Movie Title into a video file which you'll be able to import to iMovie.
